Description

During the 1950s, Mercedes-Benz swiftly reestablished itself as one of the world’s top automobile manufacturers, with models ranging from the economical to the luxurious. The company launched its first all-new postwar model, the W180 “Ponton” in 1953. The Sedan offered here is a wonderfully preserved example from 1958, finished in the fantastic color combination of Light Stone Gray (DB 169) over a blue interior, and equipped with a four-speed column-shift gearbox. The consignor, a prominent collector of the world’s most significant automobiles, notes that the Mercedes-Benz remains in largely original condition with some original paint. He further notes that the interior appears original and remains in very good shape for its age.

In the consignor’s ownership, the Mercedes-Benz has been stored in his climate-controlled facility along with his world-class collection of sports and racing cars. A W180-series Ponton in preserved condition and finished in rare colors is a very difficult thing to find in today’s market.

Importantly, this 180 Sedan also retains its matching-numbers engine per its Mercedes-Benz data card. This example would be an outstanding entry-level classic or a great addition for anyone who appreciates unrestored automobiles.
